According to yesterday's column by Robert Novak, polling indicates that both Karl Rove and Robert Novak are in deep voodoo:
"Interviews of 1,003 voters last Nov. 5-16, conducted for the Democratic Leadership Council, showed 59 percent felt Rove should quit while 25 percent said he should not. Comparable figures for DeLay were 63 percent and 24 percent. While DeLay faces trial in Texas after being indicted in a campaign finance controversy, Rove has been investigated but not indicted in the CIA leak case.
Penn's poll showed deteriorating Republican support for both Rove and DeLay. GOP votes favored DeLay's resignation, 45 percent to 40 percent, while 35 percent said Rove should go and 43 percent that he should stay."
I'm not sure why the poll is so old (from last November), but I sure hope that it hasn't gotten better for this pair of lovely gentlemen. I'd expect that DeLay's gone downhill since the poll, don't know about Rove.
To my mind, badly-wounded Republicans in office are much more useful than badly-wounded Republicans out of office - let's hope that Fitzgerald delays indicting Rove (if he's to be indicted). As long as these two are in office, and popular distaste for them is so broad, we Democrats should take every opportunity to remind folks that the Republicans are the party protecting Rove and DeLay.
The other nice thing about Fitzgerald keeping Karl twisting in the wind is that it's got to be a terrible ordeal for Rove. Not that I wish ordeals on anybody, even Evil Karl - but a worn-down Rove is more likely to make mistakes, and we need all the Rovian mistakes we can get.
